BORNEO JAZZ INVITES VIRTUAL AUDIENCES TO BE ECO-WARRIORS THROUGH ECOGREENPLANET PROGRAMME

MIRI, 21st June 2022 – Buy a Borneo Jazz festival virtual ticket and plant a tree! Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) invites virtual audiences around the world to contribute to tree-planting through its ecoGreenPlanet programme.

As part of its ongoing Responsible Tourism agenda to create meaningful and value-added travel experiences, the ecoGreenPlanet programme will see RM10 of every RM25 Borneo Jazz virtual ticket go towards a tree-planting activity that will be held after the festivals.

STB CEO Sharzede Datu Hj Salleh Askor said that this initiative was a continuation of STB’s Responsible Tourism agenda in spreading awareness on the importance of preserving the environment for generations to come.

True to its theme ‘Jazz in the Jungle’, other greening initiatives during the Borneo Jazz festival includes the Eco Drum Jam project, an eco-friendly initiative and community music outreach programme with Lewis Pragasam and FAB LAB artists at Coco Cabana to create unique drums and percussion instruments from recycling waste and to produce feel-good beats from community drumming sessions.

Additionally, there will also be an Eco-Art Installation project in collaboration with Miri City Council and MYY Living Arts as a continuation of the Borneo Jazz Beat Plastic Campaign initiated in 2019 as part of the Borneo Jazz festival ‘Responsible Tourism’ programme to transform Miri to a sustainable and eco-friendly city.

Themed ‘Trashing the Jungle’, it serves as a reminder that the plastics that make our lives convenient also choke and pollute our natural environment through our own actions. The objective of the Eco-Art project is to re-purpose recyclable plastic waste and making art with it.
