BORNEO JAZZ FESTIVAL TO PREVIEW AT TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY LAKESIDE CAMPUS

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 MAY 2012 – The much talk about Borneo Jazz Festival will kick off this weekend at Miri, Sarawak, bringing jazz melodies to the ears of Malaysian jazz lovers. A special preview will be held at the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus from 8.00pm on May 8 and 9 for audiences to experience the magic of the festival firsthand.

Performing at the preview are two of the bands, Tangora from France and Nita Aartsen from Indonesia. Local bands like Fresco Harmonica will also be featured during the preview to allow the local music scene to shine amongst global musicians.

“This preview is a glimpse of what they can expect during the Borneo Jazz Festival,” said Dato’ Rashid Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB). “This festival and also the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival in July are two of the most anticipated events organised annually by STB. We promise a truly memorable experience for all,” he added.

Singer, songwriter, composer from France, Tangora will be one of the two bands who will be perfoming. She comes from a French – Italian background and is heavily immersed in the sounds of the Caribbean and afro-Latin jazz. Her songs, sung in Creole, English, Latin, French, are delivered in her wonderfully sultry and sensual voice.

The other band will be Nita Aartsen from Indonesia. Virtuoso pianist Nita Aartsen has been described as the rising star of Classical and Jazz in Indonesia. She has held the post of State Pianist for 15 years. Nita, in her own indomitable style has taken from the more formal Classical genre and has turned it into feet-tapping, hip-swaying Latino music with a generous helping of Jazz. The result is fun and enjoyable.

The Borneo Jazz Festival will be held from May 11th to 12th. The other bands who will be performing will be Tropic Green (Singapore), New Cool Collective (Netherlands), Koh Mr Saxman and Takeshi Band (Thailand), Schalk Joubert’s 3 Continents Sextet (South Africa, United States, Norway, Sweden), SLIXS from Germany and F.V.E. Project from Malaysia.
