Local craftspeople to participate in Borneo Jazz 2012

For the first time in its seven year history, the Borneo Jazz festival at ParkCity Everly Hotel in Miri, Sarawak will be featuring a craft bazaar where local sarawakian handicrafters will be exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their products. This bazaar is organized by the Sarawak Tourism Board in co-operation with the Sarawak Craft Council. This will provide local Sarawak crafters with the unique opportunity to showcase their arts and crafts to the local, as well as international festival crowd.

Sarawak is a state full of different local tribes, each with their own fascinating culture and traditions. A large part of this culture consists of manufacturing precious items that are skillfully crafted by hand in a process that may take from some hours to as much as days. The Borneo Jazz Craft Bazaar will give festival attendees the opportunity to look the local crafters over the shoulder as they are masterfully producing all kinds of hand crafted items. The bazaar, thanks to the generous co-operation of the Sarawak Craft Council, will be featuring a diverse array of crafts, from the skillful beading of the Orang Ulu tribe to the great weaving of the Ibans.

In the midst of this market place of creativity, visitors also have the chance to purchase drinks and sit down to watch the locals work on their arts and crafts. All together, this bazaar offers a new and exciting platform for sarawakians and festival visitors alike to share their culture and purchase some great works of art.
