KUCHING, February 11, 2011 – Born in Miri, Sarawak and now living in Canada, Victor Yong makes his musical return with his Latin inspired Carnival Band. Though growing up with rock n roll, Yong’s love for Jazz eventually moved him into a career as an international guitarist. Yong is an incessant explorer discovering new styles, techniques and directions that he blends within a foundation of Latin jazz-rock fusion. His style stresses a passion for versatility over an infectious rhythmic groove.
Yong’s debut CD reveals his collective experience of over twenty-five years of writing and performing in the rock and jazz genres. The album, as well as the concert band, features some of the top names in the Canadian jazz scene, performing a delicate mix of composition and improvisation, always with an attention to detail. Miri born, but world travelled, Victor Yong and the Electric Carnival Band are a true voice of international jazz.
Borneo Jazz 2011 takes place in Miri, Sarawak from 12-15 May 2011. With artists hailing from every corner of the globe – India, China, Japan, France, Brazil, Holland, Australia, United States, Canada & Malaysia – Borneo Jazz 2011 is truly an international event.
