YK Samarinda is an ethnic jazz band hailed from East Kalimantan. Beginning as fusion jazz band, eventually made and combined the ethnic songs of Kalimantan in jazz rhythm.
YK was formed by Yusuf and King at September 2003 in Samarinda when they established some projects of ethnic song that the band about to play in some event. And then Yin, a keyboardist and studio arranger joined in 2005, and things were growing bigger when a Thrash Metal drummer named Avant asked by Yusuf to be one of the member, and was the younger among them. In 2013 was being the big moment for this band when Avant decided to continue his career, then one of the best Indonesian drummer, the young gun who runs his bright career in Jakarta, M.Iqbal came to join and showed an impressive performance at Mahakam Jazz Fiesta in Samarinda. Supported by his background as he was born in Samarinda, M.Iqbal superbly elaborated the rest and found more groove which was more fantastic to hear.
