PIANIST AND COMPOSER
Born in Barcelona in 1973, Lluís Coloma is one of the most recognized and in demand pianists in the European Blues and BoogieWoogie scene. Lluís started classical piano studies at an early age. After hearing the sounds of Jerry Lee Lewis, Roosevelt Sykes and Alan Price he migrated from stuffy classical lessons to self-taught Rock & Roll eventually showing a remarkable abilityfor Blues and BoogieWoogie. And thus it all began.
Today Lluís isconsidered a master of Blues and BoogieWoogie and garners accolades and awardss uch as “Best Catalan Musician 2003” and “Artista Blues Cat 2006”. He is usually invited to Blues & BoogieWoogie festivals all around Europe, where he stands out for his virtuosity and originality. Lluís has been invited to many festivals all over the world where his performances are received with impressive standing ovations. He continues to play all over Spain in eminently known festivals and emblematic clubs such as Café Central in Madrid, San Javier Jazz Festival, VijazzPenedès, Festival de Jazz de Barcelona. Festival de Jazz de Madrid. Jamboree in Barcelona, Festival de Blues de Cerdanyola, among others and in countries like France, England, Malaysia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Serbia… to name a few.
From the beginning , this great pianist, acclaimed for his innovative vision and amazing energy, has been developing a personal touch in the interpretation of these styles which is made obvious in the creation of his own compositions gathered in his eleven different CDs. Playing trio, piano solo or with his septet, recording duets with piano greats of this genre such as Carl Sonny Leyland, Barrelhouse Chuck, Mitch Woods, Mark “Mr B” Braun, Frank Muschalle… and collaborating with one of the bes trhythm and blues saxophonist in the world like Sax Gordon or with the BoogieWoogie piano legend Bob Seeley.
Lluís is fully devoted to promoting Blues and BoogieWoogie in Spainwhere he gives master classes and organizes several events, like the international annual meetings Campi Qui Boogie! (www.boogiewoogie.es) and Blues & Boogie Reunion in Terrassa (www.BluesBoogieSpain.com) as well as Nits de BoogieWoogie in Sabadell and Llinars del Vallès. He was the Artistic Director of the Blues Festival of Barcelona from 2003 to 2011 and also collaborates in the annual organization of BoogieWoogie Jubilee rom 2006, where he has played with Rob Rio, Ben Waters, Steve Big Man Clayton, Jean-Pierre Bertrand, Christian Willisohn, Christoph Steinbach…
During his professional career Lluís also has played with great musicians as Axel Zwingenberger, Erwin Helfer, Mike Sanchez, Jean-Jacques Milteau, Sax Gordon, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, James Harman, Corey Harris, Phil Upchurch, Manu Dibango, Sharon Jones, Loti Lewis, JojaWendt… among many others.
