A SUCCESSFUL BORNEO JAZZ 2012

KUCHING, May 19, 2012 – The 7th edition of Borneo Jazz has just ended. The festival organiser, Sarawak Tourism Board has noted tremendous response towards the festival this year. Attendance has definitely increased over the previous year, with 8,201 festival goers recorded compared to 7,811 in 2011. It was noted that the number of visitors from outside Sarawak have also increased. The Board is confident that this trend will continue in the coming years.

Dato’ Rashid Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board commented, “We are pleased that the Borneo Jazz 2012 has been a success and we are confident that it will be one of the leading Jazz events in the region”. Reports from visiting media representatives also commended the festival as being the best in the region given its unique setting and ambience and its choice of bands.

On the evening preceding the start of Borneo Jazz, Meritz Hotel Miri hosted a cocktail reception for the invited media. Meritz is the latest four star hotel in Miri which began operations about two months ago. Organised specifically to serve the interest of bloggers and news media, this event was attended by the Meritz Hotel Management team, Miri City Mayor, Sarawak Tourism Board officials and the media representatives namely from Australia, Japan, USA, Indonesia, Brunei, Egypt, Laos, Kuala Lumpur and Miri.

A total of 65 accredited media representatives from 8 countries attended the Borneo Jazz 2012. Once again the festival provided a meeting place not only for international musicians but also keen interest shown from expatriates and business people to politicians and ambassadors. The Ambassador for the Republic of Germany to Malaysia, Dr Guenter Gruber and his wife Dr Volker Wolf  and the Dutch Ambassador Mr Paul Bekkers were among those who came for the festival.
