Miri Ready For A Weekend Of Jazz

Miri, Wednesday: The 11th Borneo Jazz will be held this weekend starting Friday, 13 May to Saturday, 14 May at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri.

The food and village mart will be held on both days and there will be ten stalls selling wide varieties of food and souvenir items.

‘There are varieties of food to choose from at the Festival ground’ according to the General Manager of ParkCity Everly Hotel, Mr. Andrew Law.

‘Festival memorabilia such as performers’ CDs and T-shirts will also be available for sale at the site, at the Board’s showcase stall’ added Mdm. Angelina Bateman, Director of Events & Corporate Relations.

As part of the Board’s Corporate Social Responsibility and greening initiative, a tree planting event will be held on 12th May at the Piasau Nature Reserve, Miri at 8.00am in line with 120 participants including performers, representatives of local agencies, volunteers from representatives from the Malaysia Nature Society (MNS), Sarawak Shell Berhad Miri, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, hoteliers, government officials and members of the media.

This year’s Borneo Jazz will also feature an “Outreach Programme” on May 13, with a Keyboard/Piano workshop on “Jazz and Pop Patterns for the Keyboard”.

The programme is intended to provide free tutelage for local musicians with a passion to learn the art of Jazz-playing and will be conducted by Associate Professor Razif Mohd, a graduate of the Conservertoire de Region de Rueil-Malmaison and Centre d’Information Musicale de Paris, France and current lecturer in Universiti Sains Malaysia

The Borneo Jazz Festival is scheduled to be held from 13th to 14th May at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri with eight jazz bands with four groups performing each night.

Entrance to the Festival will be opened from 5.00pm onwards.

The bands are Raw Earth from Singapore, Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion from Germany/Cuba, Yuichiro Tokuda’s RALYZZDIG from Japan, Manou Gallo Groove Orchestra from Belgium & Ivory Coast and O Sister! from Spain.

Also joining in will be Funkatorie from Malaysia, A.P.I from Malaysia & India and The Rad Trads from New York, USA.

Festival tickets are available at the festival venue entrance at RM180.00 for an adult two-day entry, RM100.00 for a single entrance and a family package of two adults and two children at RM200.00 available from 4.00pm onwards from 13th to 14th May 2016.

Last year’s Borneo Jazz Festival recorded 40% of festival goers were non-Malaysian, and the accumulative spin off to the local economy is estimated to be in the excess of RM17 million while the media value generated is around RM10 million.

This year, the Board is targeting approximately 4,000 festival-goers to the Borneo Jazz Festival.

The 12th edition of Borneo Jazz is scheduled to be held from 12-13 May 2017 at ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri.
