BORNEO JAZZ 2014 TICKETS GO ON SALE

KUCHING, 24 March – Early bird tickets offer for the upcoming Borneo Jazz in Miri, Sarawak are now on sale at http://jazzborneo.com/programme/tickets-info/ .

Early bird tickets priced at only RM30 for adult single entry and RM55 for a 2-day pass.  Children under the age of 12 years will enjoy RM15 on each purchase of single-day pass and RM25 for a two-day pass during this period.  This offer is valid until 31 March 2014. After this, ticket price will increase to RM50 for adult for single entry and RM95 for a 2-day pass. Children tickets will be RM25 for the one-day pass and RM45 for a 2-day pass.  These will be available until the event day itself when ticket prices at the door will be RM70 for an adult (1-day) and RM130 for a 2-day pass.  Children tickets will be RM30 and RM50 respectively.

Held over the weekend 9-10 May at the Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri, Borneo Jazz promises two days of fine jazz music with great food and a craft bazaar amidst a laid-back beach resort ambience.

Now in its ninth year, the festival organiser looks forward to presenting a wonderful jazz music in an exotic setting. Apart from the stage, the program this year will showcase marching bands from local school bands which have participated in international competitions. These bands will kick off the festival programme daily. After the stage shows, those of you who still can’t get enough of jazz music, you will be able jam with your favourite bands. For those who still want to party, there will be a ‘Club Set’ with a well-known national DJ.

The line-up this year is without doubt an exciting one. The festival will be featuring bands from countries never featured before and also bands with unique repertoire. Borneo Jazz 2014 will be featuring a band from Georgia – Iriao,an ethno-jazz band. The Georgian authentic folk instrumental and polyphonic music of which the band’s repertoire is based on, has been recognized by UNESCO as being a masterpiece of oral intangible heritage.

Brassballett from Germany – the first and only show worldwide where musicians play their instruments and dance at the same time – is a unique performance not to be missed. Vocal Sampling – salsa band, and all-male A cappella musical group from Cuba – is a very well-known band and a crowd pleaser. They should be well-received as, in the last 2 years, A cappella acts have been a show topper at Borneo Jazz. Their album “Cambio de Tiempo” has been nominated for 3 Latin Grammy Awards. Mario Canonge – a great virtuoso and showman playing creole jazz with West indies rhythms from Martinique/France, will be the first Martinican to play at the festival. YK Band from Indonesia will feature jazz from Samarinda with hints of Borneo flavours. Anthony Strong has been hailed as “England’s new jazz superstar” from UK.  With a support slot with the legendary BB King and an EP (Extended Play) release which reached #1 on the UK jazz charts, Anthony eventually signed a recording deal with iconic French label Naïve, home of multi-million selling singers Adele, Carla Bruni and Katie Melua.

From the local scene, Diana Liu the Sarawakian-born artiste who plays various jazz, bossa nova, gospel and funk/soul, will be accompanied by band members representing Malaysia/USA/Taiwan. Among them, is Malaysia’s very own Lewis Pragasam on drums. Another Malaysian band making their debut at Borneo Jazz 2014, will be Junkofunc, featuring a highly energetic rhythms with a touch of soul and lashings of funk with punchy brass and powerful vocals.
