AWARD WINNERS FROM THREE CONTINENTS AT BORNEO JAZZ 2012

KUCHING, April 1, 2012 – Schalk Joubert’s Three Continents Sextet featuring South African born bass player Schalk Joubert himself and collaborating with an all girl brass section from Scandinavia, a rhythm section from Africa and a multi-instrumentalist from the USA will take to the stage at the Borneo Jazz 2012 to be held in Miri in May.

Young bass player Schalk Joubert is the product of his mixed cultural heritage. His influences are the rhythms of Africa and the harmony of Europe. His heart lies in tightly arranged rock/jazz and world music.

Performing with him on stage will be Stockholm based Karin Hammar, on trombone; San Francisco based multi-instrumentalist, Rich Armstrong; Kevin Gibson, on drums; Oslo based Shannon Mowday, on alto sax and clarinet as well as Melissa van der Spy on the grand piano; and Norwegian, Hildegunn Oiseth on trumpet. All of them are stars in their own right and among themselves have worn various awards.

Borneo Jazz 2012 main shows take place in Miri from 11-12 May 2012. Be sure not to miss this great group who represent music from 3 continents – Europe , Africa and America.
